Updated: · based on the official documentation of OpenAI
Why it happens
OpenAI checks where the request comes from: server IP, cloud region, CDN edge or VPN. Even a foreign company can hit it if its server ends up in an unsupported region.
The code unsupported_country_region_territory is not in the current official error table but appears in real responses; the documented heading is “Country, region, or territory not supported”.
How to connect GPT
Through API429: base URL https://gateway.api429.com/v1 instead of https://api.openai.com/v1, an API429 key and a model ID from the catalog, such as gpt-6.1-sol. The rest of your OpenAI SDK code stays the same.
Connecting through API429: Python example
import os
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(
base_url="https://gateway.api429.com/v1", # instead of the provider URL
api_key=os.environ["API429_API_KEY"],
)
reply = client.chat.completions.create(
model="claude-sonnet-5-5", # exact ID from the API429 catalog
messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Hello"}],
