Workload budget: input and output
Ordinary input and output are counted, excluding cache, tools, fees and repeated calls. This estimates spending; it does not validate whether a request is accepted. RUB results use only your entered rate; they are neither a bank quote nor a top-up amount.
Specifications and compatibility boundaries
The manufacturer specifies a context window of 1,000,000 and a maximum output of 128,000 tokens for its own API (specification: Anthropic, checked Oct 24, 2026). These are not verified effective API429 limits: the current public catalog does not publish them. Confirm the required volume and mode before migrating your workload.

Existing coding workflows: preserve a verifiable baseline
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 after Opus 4.8 and now classifies it as an active legacy model: the manufacturer suggests considering Opus 5.5. For an application already configured for Opus 5, a saved task with a known result provides a useful baseline. Take a small code fragment, expected behavior and an edge case check. In the demonstration request below, the model analyzes access to the first item of a list; you can evaluate the answer without repository access or command execution. Then compare the same request with the newer version. A successful answer to a short example does not establish quality on a large migration. For a real change, retain the original diff, affected file list and existing test results. If Opus 5 is already part of your workflow, change the model separately from the instruction template and response handler: this makes new outcomes easier to explain and lets you restore the previous configuration after a regression.
Answer length, task boundaries and self-checking
Anthropic’s dedicated guide notes that Opus 5 tends to give more detailed answers and report its actions more actively than earlier Opus versions. This affects code review interfaces: a long explanation can obscure the single important defect. State the required scope explicitly, such as one edge case and one test; for a change review, request the file, failure condition and observable consequence. Do not assume reducing native effort automatically shortens visible text: that parameter controls reasoning. The guide also describes self-checking and a tendency to expand tasks. For a narrow fix, list permitted files and the completion criterion; ask the model to report a need for changes beyond those boundaries first. In an agent application, additional checks, messages and delegation count toward the total budget. Evaluate repeated instructions inherited from an old template to recheck every step on a control task: they may increase spending without improving the result.
Moving to Opus 5.5 and the boundaries of native features
Moving from Opus 5 to Opus 5.5 changes significant parts of the direct Claude API contract. The newer version always enables adaptive thinking; disabling thinking and forcing tool selection through any or tool are rejected. Opus 5 allows thinking to be disabled at effort high or below, while combining it with xhigh or max causes an error. Default effort is high for Opus 5 and medium for Opus 5.5. These differences help validate an existing native client but do not promise support for those fields in API429. The basic published Chat Completions method establishes model, messages, max_tokens and stream; this page’s examples use that contract. Another difference concerns length: Anthropic lists 128K as Opus 5’s ordinary maximum output, with 300K available separately in Message Batches using a beta header. That Batch mode is not a confirmed gateway capability. Check effective request size and required additional modes against client documentation and your access terms.
Comparing cost with the same task and a usable result
Anthropic publishes separate ordinary input and output rates for Opus 5 and the newer Opus 5.5; the Claude API Pricing guide provides the family comparison. Current API429 prices on this page come from the published catalog. Do not substitute direct Anthropic API rates or apply Batch discounts or Fast mode pricing: those are different processing conditions. To compare Opus 5, Opus 5.5, Sonnet and Haiku, use the same input, required format and acceptance criterion. Record actual input and output tokens, attempts, time to a usable answer and manual corrections. The ordinary token calculator does not estimate an agent sequence: resent history and new responses add to usage. Compare the final cost of a completed task rather than one rate. Test a new model first on a limited set with known expected errors and correct answers, then decide whether the result warrants changing the workflow.
Public model observations
There are no fresh observations with confirmed traffic for this model. This does not mean zero latency or prove an absence of errors.
Source: public 24-hour statistics. The mean is neither a median nor a response time guarantee; the error rate and observation window refer to the API429 service. Model quality is not measured here.
First request: curl, Python, JavaScript
Create a key, check your balance and set API429_API_KEY on the server. The generation example incurs a charge. It does not retry automatically; a timeout does not prove the operation was not charged. Inspect the content and actual usage after receiving a response. Python and JavaScript first check the available model list.

Before generation, check the exact ID in the response from GET https://gateway.api429.com/v1/models using the same Bearer key.

n8n: minimal HTTP Request
- Create an HTTP Request with method POST and URL
https://gateway.api429.com/v1/chat/completions. - Store the Bearer key in credentials; add
Content-Type: application/json. Do not put the key in an exported workflow example. - Send the JSON from curl: the exact model
claude-opus-5, messages, max_tokens and stream=false. - After the HTTP node, check
choices,finish_reasonand the response content before writing the result to your production system.
HTTP Request documentation. This recipe describes HTTP Request. Compatibility with specific Agent nodes, SDKs and other API methods needs separate verification.
Three models for your own comparison

Version and release date
Manufacturer API release date, Anthropic: . Previous generation: Claude Opus 4.8; this does not automatically replace the ID in your integration. The date of addition to API429 is unknown. Current availability is determined by the catalog and key permissions, rather than the manufacturer’s historical release date.
Frequently asked questions
Why compare Opus 5 and Opus 5.5 for an existing integration?
The manufacturer keeps Opus 5 as an active legacy model and recommends considering Opus 5.5. Migration requires your own checks: the same request, answer usability, tokens and attempts. A newer version name alone does not establish an improvement for your task.
Can I transfer thinking and forced tools to Opus 5.5?
In the direct Claude API, Opus 5.5 always enables thinking and rejects forced tool selection. This is a manufacturer difference. Native parameter compatibility through API429 needs separate verification; the minimal request uses model, messages, max_tokens and stream.
Does 300K mean I can get that output through API429?
No. The manufacturer ties Opus 5’s 300K output to a separate Batch API and beta mode. Its ordinary output specification is 128K. Neither number establishes the effective gateway or key limit.
How can I limit an overly long code review?
Specify the number of findings, error criterion and explanation length in your message. max_tokens limits generation volume, but too small a value may truncate a useful answer. Check the completion indicator and content before passing the result to the next step.
